Membership and Cost Information


To be eligible to live at Peter Green Hall the applicant must be family oriented and cohabitating with their partner and/or dependent children. The applicant may also be a single parent with full custody of his/her child(ren). At least one family partner must be enrolled as a full time student at a local degree granting university or college.


Halifax Student Housing Society leases may be terminated by the member at any time by submitting a three-month written notice to vacate to the Business Office. Unless a written three-month notice is provided, leases renew automatically.

Number of Residents

Due to fire regulations, the maximum number of persons (including infants) permitted to live in a one-bedroom apartment is three people, and the maximum permitted in a two-bedroom apartment is five people. Please keep this in mind when filling out your application.

Annual Membership Cost

There is a HSHS Membership fee due every year on the 1st of September. The cost is $24.00 per couple and $12.00 for single parents and is to be paid by cash or cheque. If paying by cheque, it should be a separate cheque NOT included with your rent cheque. This money pays for social events and items for the children and adults of Peter Green Hall, and is non-refundable.

Security Deposit

A security deposit of one full month's rent is required upon accepting an apartment. This security deposit is refunded upon vacating the building, providing the rent is up to date and the apartment is in good and clean condition.

Rent (Effective September 1st, 2017st)

2017/2018 Rent:

Rent includes heat, hot water, and electricity. Members provide for their own telephone, cable, and internet services.

Apartment Insurance

Apartment insurance is mandatory to reside at Peter Green Hall. Insurance is not sold through the Society. The approximate cost is $120 - $170 per year.
